“Vincent's Chair are the real deal – wonderful musicians playing all-original, beautifully crafted songs” InDaily, Adelaide
Vincent's Chair is an Australian contemporary acoustic group founded by singer-songwriter, Kathie Renner.
The songs, by Renner – who cites Sting, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon as her influences – have an eclectic sound that crosses all musical boundaries, and articulate enigmatic story-telling with a focus on honest musicianship.
“It's all about the songs,” says Kathie. “I'm interested in all kinds of music, and as a composer I like to explore all the options; much like a painter has a palette of colours to choose from and a range of medium to paint in. The subject matter determines the style I write in. This is why you will hear plaintive folk songs, sophisticated jazz tunes, pop songs and latin-flavoured sounds in a Vincent's Chair set.”
A highlight for 2014 was the release of their latest CD, “The New Vibe” at the renowned Adelaide Festival Centre. Then it was a busy year of showcasing the CD, culminating in a tour of Europe and the UK. This is a tradition they have continued for the past four years.
In 2015 they return to Europe in Sept/October to play concerts across Germany and Paris, France armed with their new single release "Born Yesterday".
To date they have toured Europe five times and released four cds.
The Vincent's Chair line-up consists of Kathie Renner on vocals, keyboards and guitars, Karen De Nardi on viola, Sam Leske on guitars and Holly Thomas on percussion.
Singer-songwriter, Kathie Renner, has been crafting songs for thirty years and has released several CDs of her own in addition to four with Vincent’s Chair. Her first award was won at age 18, when she performed her own songs with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. She has been commissioned to write and record songs for others and was a finalist in the Australian Songwriter’s Association awards.
A gifted vocalist, Kathie possesses an expressive, pure sound, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell, and makes certain that every song she sings gives a true representation of herself.
Karen De Nardi is a classically trained viola player with experience across many genres. Her work has included shows with Michael Buble, Il Divo, Diesel and Savage Garden.
Karen is violist in Aurora String Quartet and The Adelaide Art Orchestra. A founding member of Vincent’s Chair, Karen brings a warmth and sensitivity to the ensemble sound.
Guitarist Sam Leske is one of Australia's hardest working musicians. A much sought after player, Sam is a highly gifted guitarist, well versed in most styles, who performs regularly with Australian legends, Debra Byrne, Peter Combe and Tommy Bradson. He is also making a name for himself in the recording world as a producer session musician and musical director.
Holly Thomas is the newest member of the group, joining on percussion and Cajon.
Holly is recognised for her precise playing and excellent time keeping.
